Mr Andreas Xenofontos

ASSOCIATE LECTURER IN ENERGY LAW

Andreas is an Advocate admitted to practice Law in Cyprus. He practices the Law at Papantoniou & Papantoniou LLC, under the firm’s Corporate and Commercial practice, focusing on Energy, Oil and Gas, International Arbitration, Projects and Infrastructure, Real Estate and Construction, and Shipping practice. He has diverse backgrounds of expertise and he handles multidisciplinary issues, proposing effective solutions.

He specialises in International and Comparative Energy, Oil and Gas Law and Policy, International Arbitration and Energy, Oil, and Gas Dispute Settlement, comparative regulation of the energy sector (gas, electricity, and renewables), negotiation and drafting of International Oil and Gas Contracts, International Investment Law, and Investment Legal Transition.

In parallel, Andreas is developing an academic career working as an Associate Lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire Cyprus, being Module Leader, and Lecturer on LLM modules Oil and Gas Public Law, and Oil and Gas Private Law. Additionally he is a contributor on Cyprus Chapter, of the Oxford University Press publication, Cameron Peter, and Raphael Heffron “Legal Aspects of EU Energy Regulation”, 2nd Edition (2016).

Moreover, he worked as a research fellow at Energy Charter Secretariat in Brussels, being responsible for the drafting of the “In Depth Review of the investment climate and market structure of the Energy Sector of Cyprus”, providing important policy recommendations to the Ministry of Energy of Cyprus.

Andreas graduated from the Law School of the University of Cyprus (LL.B). He obtained LL.M in International, and Comparative Dispute Resolution from Queen Mary University of London (CCLS, School of International Arbitration). In continuance, he obtained M.Sc in International Oil and Gas Management from the Centre of Energy, Petroleum, Mineral, Law and Policy (CEPMLP) University of Dundee, and was awarded with the “Team Prize” for the co-organisation of Dundee Energy Summit, a student led conference.

Andreas is a member of Nicosia Bar Association, and Cyprus Bar Association. He is an active member of Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN), a member of AIPN Young Negotiators Group, a member of ICC Young Arbitrators Forum, and a member of LCIA Young International Arbitration Group.
