Honorary Fellow
Demetrios Hadjihambis was born in 1946 in Famagusta, Cyprus. After completing his primary and secondary education there, he studied law in England. Being awarded the LL.B. degree with First Class Honours from the University of Exeter, he proceeded to the University of Cambridge at Jesus College where he was awarded the Ph.D. degree for his thesis on “Liability for Torts in Anglo-American Choice of Law”, prepared under the supervision of Professor K. Lipstein.
Called to the Cyprus Bar, he practised law in Cyprus. He was also Lecturer-in-Law at the University of Exeter from 1974 until 1979.
He was appointed a District Court Judge in 1982, being promoted to Senior District Judge in 1992 and to President of the District Court in 1995.
In 1999 he was appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of Cyprus. In 2013 he was appointed President of the Supreme Court of Cyprus. He retired on 19th July 2014.
