ACM-W Connections, a prestigious international Computing-related newsletter, has featured, in their March 2018 issue, ACM-W Cyprus, the Cyprus chapter for women in Computing.

The chapter ACM-W Cyprus is chaired by Dr. Josephina Antoniou (School of Sciences, UCLan Cyprus). It is featured under the title “Spotlight in Cyprus” and this is the second time the chapter is featured internationally, as its chair has been selected to be featured in their “People of ACM – Europe” initiative earlier this year. ACM is considered to be the most significant professional Computing Association internationally.

The ACM-W Cyprus professional chapter was initially founded by professional women in computing from two universities: UCLan Cyprus and Cyprus University of Technology.

The chapter now has about 20 professional members from several universities and companies across the island of Cyprus.  Many students from these universities are also members of the professional chapter.

According to Chair, Dr. Josephina Antoniou, the aim of ACM-W Cyprus is to encourage participation in Computing and Technology in terms of studies and careers, and encourage female participation in the field.

The events focus on promoting significant skills that would help young students and professionals learn more and acquire skills that would help them become more attractive in the national and international job market.

The chapter has organised many successful events including:

• WomenPower Fair (2015 & 2016): aimed to inspire, empower and link women mentors and mentees
• Cyprus Pen-Test Competition (2015 & 2016 & 2017): annual ethical hacking competition
• ACM ICPC National Programming Competition (2017): the first time Cyprus hosted a competition

H Πρόεδρος του ACM-W και Επίκουρη Καθηγήτρια Πληροφορικής της Σχολής Επιστημών του Πανεπιστημίου Δρ Ιωσηφίνα Αντωνίου, παρουσιάζει για άλλη μια φορά τον Σύνδεσμο Πληροφορικής στο ενημερωτικό Δελτίο ACM-W Μαρτίου

Το ACM-W Connections, μια διεθνής, υψηλού κύρους εγκύκλιος σχετική με την Πληροφορική, επέλεξε να παρουσιάσει στο τεύχος Μαρτίου 2018 το ACM–W Cyprus, το παράρτημα της ACM στην Κύπρο για γυναίκες στην Πληροφορική, στο οποίο προεδρεύει η Δρ. Ιωσηφίνα Αντωνίου (Σχολή Επιστημών, UCLan Cyprus).

Το παράρτημα της ACM στην Κύπρο παρουσιάζεται κάτω από τον τίτλο «Η Κύπρος στο προσκήνιο», και αυτή είναι η δεύτερη φορά που ο οργανισμός ACM αναφέρεται σ’ αυτό, αφού νωρίτερα αυτό το χρόνο παρουσίασαν την πρόεδρο του ACM-W Cyprus, στην πρωτοβουλία “People of ACM- Europe”. Ο οργανισμός ACM θεωρείται ως ο σημαντικότερος επαγγελματικός σύνδεσμος για την Πληροφορική διεθνώς.
