Με όραμα να εδραιωθεί στην πρώτη γραμμή της εκπαίδευσης, της έρευνας και της μεταφοράς γνώσης στους τομείς των οπτικοακουστικών μέσων, του σχεδιασμού, των γραφικών τεχνών και των ψηφιακών μέσων και επικοινωνίας, εκτός από την ανάπτυξη και εισαγωγή νέων προγραμμάτων σπουδών, το Πανεπιστήμιο UCLan Cyprus σε συνεργασία με το Wuhan University of Communication της Κίνας παρουσιάζουν το νεοσύστατο International Center of Media, Arts and Communication. Κύριοι στόχοι της λειτουργίας του εν λόγω Κέντρου είναι η προώθηση της έρευνας και της δημιουργικότητας, καθώς επίσης και οι ανταλλαγές γνώσεων και εμπειριών που σχετίζονται με τους πιο πάνω τομείς σε τοπικό, Ευρωπαϊκό αλλά και διεθνές επίπεδο.
Στα πλαίσια των δραστηριοτήτων του νεοσύστατου Κέντρου, το Πανεπιστήμιο UCLan Cyprus συμμετέχει στο «Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογραφικές Μέρες Κύπρος» με pop-up εκδήλωση με τίτλο «Behind the Scenes: Συναντήσεις με τον Κινέζικο Κινηματογράφο». Η εκδήλωση, η οποία υποστηρίζεται από την Ένωση Σκηνοθετών Κύπρου καθώς και από την Κινηματογραφική Λέσχη Λάρνακας, θα πραγματοποιηθεί την Τρίτη, 25 Απριλίου από τις 09:30 μέχρι τις 15:00 στις εγκαταστάσεις του Πανεπιστημίου UCLan Cyprus στη Λάρνακα.
Το «Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογραφικές Μέρες Κύπρος» είναι το επίσημο διεθνές κινηματογραφικό φεστιβάλ της Κύπρου. Συνδιοργανώνεται από το Τμήμα Νεότερου και Σύγχρονου Πολιτισμού του Υφυπουργείου Πολιτισμού και το Θέατρο Ριάλτο.
Εκτός από την παρουσίαση του Κέντρου, το πρόγραμμα της εκδήλωσης θα περιλαμβάνει δύο προβολές ντοκιμαντέρ από τον κινέζικο κινηματογράφο που φέρνουν στην επιφάνεια περιβαλλοντικά, ηθικά και οικονομικά ζητήματα. Και οι δύο προβολές θα πραγματοποιηθούν με την παρουσία αντιπροσώπων των παραγωγών.
Ο Bo Li, μοντέρ, μέλος της Ακαδημίας OSCARS και βραβευμένος με το Βραβείο του Καλύτερου Μοντάζ στο 54ο Golden Horse Awards στην Ταιβάν θα παρουσιάσει το ντοκιμαντέρ «Plastic China» το οποίο μας καλεί να διερωτηθούμε πώς ζούμε περιβαλλόμενοι από πλαστικά απόβλητα.
Ο Chunlin Cheng, κινηματογραφιστής, θα παρουσιάσει την δεύτερη προβολή με τίτλο «City Dream». Το ντοκιμαντέρ κέρδισε το Grand Jury Prize στο φεστιβάλ DOC NYC της Νέας Υόρκης το 2019 και προβάλλει τους αγώνες του Wang Tiancheng, ενός ηλικιωμένου πλανόδιου πωλητή στην Wuhan της Κίνας, του οποίου η επιχείρηση απειλείται από την ανάπτυξη μιας νέας λιανικής περιοχής.
Mετά από κάθε προβολή, θα ακολουθήσει Q&A session ενώ κατά την διάρκεια της εκδήλωσης θα πραγματοποιηθεί δεξίωση δικτύωσης.

Behind the scenes: Chinese Cinema Encounters
With the vision to establish itself at the forefront of education, research, and knowledge transfer in the areas of audiovisuals, media production, design, graphic arts, digital media and communication, in addition to introducing new programmes of study, UCLan Cyprus in collaboration with China’s Wuhan University of Communication present the newly established International Center of Media, Arts and Communication.
The main objectives of the Center’s operation include the promotion of research and creativity, and the facilitation of knowledge, expertise and experience exchange related to the aforementioned areas at a local, European, and international level.
As part of the Center’s activities, UCLan Cyprus participates in the “Cyprus International Film Days Festival” with a satellite event supported by the Directors Guild of Cyprus and the Larnaka Cinema Society. The event entitled “Behind the Scenes: Chinese Cinema Encounters“, will take place on Tuesday, April 25th from 09:30 to 15:00 at the premises of UCLan Cyprus in Larnaca.
The “Cyprus International Film Days Festival” is the official international film festival of Cyprus. It is co-organized by the Department of Modern and Contemporary Culture of the Deputy Ministry of Culture and the Rialto Theatre.
In addition to the inauguration of the newly established Centre, the event spotlights Chinese Cinema with two special screenings that engage with environmental, moral and economic issues. Both screenings will take place in the presence of production representatives.
Bo Li, editor, member of the OSCARS Academy and Winner of the Best Editing at the 54th Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan will present the documentary “Plastic China” which grapples with questions of what it means to be surrounded by plastic waste.
Chunlin Cheng, cinematographer, will present the second screening entitled “City Dream”. This film was featured in the Viewfinders Section and won the Grand Jury Prize of the 2019 DOC NYC Film Festival. It documents the struggles of Wang Tiancheng, an elderly and cantankerous street vendor in Wuhan, China, whose business is threatened by the development of a new retail district.
Q&A sessions will follow each screening and a networking reception will take place during the event.
