On Friday
12 May 2017, the Law School of UCLan Cyprus held its inaugural Annual Lecture
at the Cleopatra Hotel in Nicosia.
The
Inaugural Annual Lecture was delivered by His Excellency Mr Costas Clerides,
the Attorney-General of the Republic of Cyprus. In his Lecture, Mr Clerides
examined the constitutional role of the Attorney-General and then fielded
questions from students and other members of the audience on subjects as
diverse as the separation of powers and the training of young lawyers.
The
Annual Lecture was attended by various members of the judiciary, the legal
profession and academia, as well as law students. In addition to
providing an invaluable opportunity to the students to hear more about the role
of the Attorney-General from the office holder himself, it also allowed them to
network and discuss with members of the legal profession, both from the public
and private sector.
UCLan Cyprus would like to thank the Attorney-General for delivering the first Inaugural Annual Lecture, as well as professionals who attended the event, and through their attendance also contributed to the creation of a hardship fund for students at the UCLan Cyprus School of Law in need of financial support.
