Module Content
This module is designed to introduce students to the fundamental principles and techniques of drawing applicable to illustration. It aims to provide students with a strong foundation in the visual language of drawing, as well as the confidence to use drawing as a means of visual expression and communication in illustrative contexts.
Students will learn how to create a variety of line qualities, shapes, forms, values, textures, and compositions through a range of drawing mediums relevant to illustration. Students will also be introduced to basic hand and digital sketching techniques, perspective principles, art principles applicable to illustration, shading techniques, and the use of negative space.
This module will provide students with opportunities to develop their creative problem-solving abilities and to enhance their ability to visually communicate their ideas within the context of illustration.

Teaching Methods
The module will be delivered through a combination of lectures, presentations, group discussions, video projections, demonstrations and desk-crits which are used to help students gain knowledge about the topic area. Workshops and projects may incorporate both individual and group learning.
During this module, student preparation and participation will play an important role in the overall learning environment. Substantial preparation will be required. Students will need to be prepared to apply concepts learned throughout the module, integrate them into tasks, and use their communication, creativity and problem-solving skills.
Students are required to attend all timetabled learning activities for this module. Participation in the workshops is important for both their learning experience and that of their classmates.
Assessment Methods
This module is assessed through one Group Brief and one Individual Portfolio.
