Experimental Silhouette Investigation

Module Aims

Aim 1

Enhance or provide an alternative route to traditional pattern cutting skills by developing an experimental and more individual approach in preparation for their final collection.

Aim 2

Develop personalised 3D outcomes through experimental methods increasing the output for innovation and cutting-edge design.

Experimental Silhouette Investigation

Module Content

Range and depth of material to be covered:
• Investigate creative solutions and build skills through an approach towards experimental cut and construction and innovative stand work alongside referencing both contemporary and retrospective innovative designers.
• Students will also continue to develop in-depth research methodologies in conjunction with practical studio-based sessions.
• It will be necessary to develop appropriate presentation formats when presenting and communicating final outcomes and conclusions.
• An experimental approach will be required throughout this module that will challenge students and promote unconventional results concluding in a dynamic and conceptual final outcome.

PROGRAMME SPECIFICATIONS

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module, a student will be able to:

Apply a confident and self-directed experimental approach to silhouette creation while continuing to develop a unique personal style.

Present innovative solutions by analysing abstract concepts from original sources.

Communicate an understanding of varying methodologies for creating 3 dimensional forms.

Exhibit a professional approach and appropriate methods of make in the execution of final garments.

Manage time and output to a standard required in professional practice.

Experimental Silhouette Investigation

Teaching Methods

The teaching and learning will be carried out via a number of varied strategies.
Projects will be set and studio-based sessions will be used for lectures and practical work, with progress checks on a one-to-one basis for both the practical work and presentation element.
Through a combination of self-directed research and studio based practical sessions students will be able to develop a more experimental and contemporary approach regarding pattern cutting. This will lead to an appreciation of proportion and innovative silhouette development that will enrich Final Collection design ideas.
