Module Aims
Aim 1
Develop students’ skills in conducting an independent piece of research in an area of forensic psychology which particularly interests them.
Aim 2
Enable students to demonstrate that they can synthesize knowledge and skills developed in the other MSc Forensic Psychology modules and apply them to a piece of research.
Aim 3
Allow students to demonstrate that they can design a research project, carry out data collection and analyses, and interpret the results of this project.
Module Content
Students are expected to take a significant role in creating, conducting, analysing, and interpreting the results of an original and comprehensive empirical study that fills gaps in the existing literature and contributes to the advancement of the discipline of forensic psychology. Additionally, students will be supported in developing research project that are sensitive to the needs of diverse populations (diversity and inclusion in forensic psychology). The module will cover various qualitative research methods used in the field, including case studies and thematic analysis, enabling students to design, conduct, and analyse qualitative studies.

Teaching Methods
The module will be delivered through independent learning, workshops, and lectures. Tutorial support will be provided, but students must design and conduct their own research project, along with analysing and interpreting the results.
Students are given one-to-one supervision whilst conducting the research project. Students are expected to see their supervisor most frequently during the design and analysis stages, although an appointment can be made at any time. This is usually from weekly to monthly, depending on the stage of the study.
Assessment Methods
This module is assessed through a Dissertation.
