Module Aims
Aim 1
To place the study of Fashion within the contexts of Art, Design and Wider Culture.
Aim 2
To introduce students to the various approaches, sources and methods used by design historians.
Aim 3
To develop research, analytical and academic skills to underpin the study of fashion.
Module Content
The study will focus on the following areas:
• 20th – 21st Century style and culture – Style evolution across various regions (including Cyprus, UK, Greece and more) and the influence of cultural heritage on fashion choices and expressions.
• Key concepts and influential artists / designers and how these figures have drawn inspiration from, and contributed to, the representation and celebration of cultural heritage in contemporary fashion.
• Social and cultural change within the 20th – 21st Century – Significant historical moments and movements and how fashion has been utilised to foster intercultural dialogue and express cultural identity and resilience within diverse communities.

• Fieldtrips/Visits to Cultural Heritage Museums and Exhibitions, Traditional Lace-Making Museums, Folklore Museums, Artisan Workshops and Demonstrations, Heritage Organizations, Cultural Events and Traditional Textile Workshops.
• Private study
For the assessment of this module, students will be required to write an essay in response to a set assignment brief. In addition, students will deliver a short presentation in their seminar groups.
Assessment Methods
This module is assessed through one Essay/Report and one Presentation.
