Aim 1


The module examines brain damaged individuals or those suffering from brain dysfunction or trauma from a neuropsychological and cognitive perspective. The module covers the use of techniques, such as neuroimaging, in furthering the understanding of neuropsychological disorders.

Examples of topics covered include:
•The effects of frontal lobe damage.
•The effects of temporal and parietal lobe damage.
•Aphasia: its biological basis and treatment.
•Alzheimer’s Disease and memory
•Neuropsychological assessment
•Neuroimaging and its use for neuropsychological disorders

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module, a student will be able to:


Describe, and critically evaluate a range of theoretical and practical approaches to the study of neuropsychological disorders.


Identify, select and interpret primary sources and integrate these to provide informed analysis of the role of psychology within the context of neuropsychological disorders.
