Module Aims

Aim 1


To enable students to reflect upon their work-based experience via the application of theory to practice. To formulate a career plan based upon the transferable skills acquired in industry related to their career aspirations.

Module Content

Introduction to the process of reflection on work-based experience. Audit the skills learnt prior to and whilst in industry and identify the transferability of these skills to a future career. Situations which occurred at work will be explored to identify the learning that took place.

On successful completion of this module, a student will be able to:


Identify learning and development opportunities associated with part-time employment/voluntary work


Discuss incidents which influenced learning and how your actions impact upon yourself, your colleagues and the organisation


Explain learning gained from the experience using a model of reflection


Apply models, theories and process learnt during year one of study to work place learning opportunities.

Teaching Methods

To enable students to reflect upon their work-based experience via the application of theory to practice. To formulate a career plan based upon the transferable skills acquired in industry related to their career aspirations. To develop a professional portfolio of evidence. Assignment 1 provides an opportunity for students to fully appreciate the key theoretical frameworks that will help them in a relevant work-based environment. Assignment two builds upon theory by encouraging the students to apply the principles of effective performance by reflecting upon their experience and personal development through the course of the professional work experience.
