Module Aims
Aim 1
Provide students with experience of the application of psychology in a setting relevant to their degree which will enable them to reflect on the experience and their own skills and development needs in relation to future careers.
Aim 2
Develop students’ critical awareness of an area of psychology
Module Content
The syllabus will be defined by the programme of activities agreed between the student and the placement provider, and the topic which the student wishes to pursue in their essay. With guidance from the module leader, including working through the module handbook, students will identify and secure their own placements by the end of their second year. Once the module leader is assured (having followed University procedures) that there are no Health and Safety issues, and DBS checks have been completed as required, students must complete the placement prior to the semester in which it is assessed. Students will complete assessments with appropriate support from the module leader.

Teaching Methods
The placement provides an opportunity to experience psychology in a setting relevant to their degree and future career goals. The oral presentation following the placement requires student to critically reflect on this experience and, as it is peer assessed, the student’s peers then benefit from extra information about careers and potential employers The essay allows the student to consider the link between psychological theory and their placement.
Assessment Methods
This module is assessed through an essay and a presentation.
