Module Content
This module focuses on the initial development of the student’s specific line of enquiry in relation to their chosen specialism through consultation with their module tutor or tutors. Students are expected to design their own learning journey using their learning agreement. Initially students may develop several potential enquiries to investigate, and these will be reviewed through consultation with your course tutors. Students will be expected to use the learning agreement as a framework to their enquiry using headings that are used in academic research. For example; outline of project, context, rationale, key areas of research, intended outcome, intended impact.
Enquiry make take the form of practice-based enquiry and this development must be recorded and reflected through their reflective diary as well as evidenced in their body of work. The reflective diary is established in Reflective Practice but will underpin your whole MA journey. This is not simply a log or record of your work but evidence of considered and informed decisions throughout your MA.
Enquiry will make use of the research methodologies introduced in Research Methodologies and include practice-based, quantitative or qualitative. This will be reflected in your reflective diary as well your body of work and will drive your practice.
There is an interim presentation by students where they will discuss and critically analyse their work with their peers and tutors. This presentation will include reflections on their research, enquiry and practical work. Students must evidence that are engaging with the Research Methodologies module by demonstrating how these methodologies drive and inform their work. Students are expected to identify key issues and evidence possible reformation and redirection.
The conclusion of this module will require submission of the Learning Agreement, Reflective Journal and a body of initial design work in preparation for Experimental Practice.
