Teaching Methods
The combination of scheduled learning and teaching activities and guided independent study will ensure that students have access to a wide range of learning and teaching resources, both inside and outside the classroom, thereby helping them to achieve success on the module.
Each element of assessment within the module maps onto the aforementioned Learning Outcomes, thereby enabling students to consolidate and develop competences in professional knowledge and practice in accordance with the academic and professional standards of the discipline.
Formative assessment
Formative assessments support students’ learning and provide feedback to students on their progress through the module. In TESOL, formative ‘assessment’ is normally in the form of supportive feedback/feed-forward; drafting and/or rehearsal/practice/mocks. IN TESOL, marks are not given for formative assessment.
Summative assessment
Summative assessment measures and grades students’ learning against the module learning outcomes. Tutors evaluate and assign a percentage mark to their students’ learning for an assessment which contributes to the final grade of the module. Summative assessment is supported by: learning in timetabled classes; in-class briefings; homework; material on Blackboard; independent/guided study; tutorials/discussions with the tutor in office hours and followed by feedback and feed-forward as relevant.
Assessment Methods
This module is assessed through one Project Output: You are assessed on a negotiated project. The output is via a portfolio, a workshop or a presentation etc.
