During the Autumn of 2021 Dr Klearchos A. Kyriakides has assumed a number of new roles at UCLan Cyprus and elsewhere.
At UCLan Cyprus, Dr Kyriakides has become a Senior Visiting Fellow in the School of Law where he will continue to engage in academic research and to deliver or co-deliver Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses. He will also contribute to the academic life of the School of Law in other ways. For example, from time to time, he will deliver occasional guest lectures to the LLB as well as LLM Degree programmes. Dr Kyriakides previously served in the School of Law of UCLan Cyprus as Assistant Professor (from September 2015 until August 2021) and as Deputy Head of School (from June 2019 until August 2021).
Away from UCLan Cyprus, Dr Kyriakides has become an Independent Academic Consultant to Walk of Truth Stichting (https://walkoftruth.com/) in The Hague in the Netherlands. Walk of Truth is a registered charitable not-for-profit foundation dedicated to protecting cultural heritage and tackling art trafficking plus other forms of cultural crime. In this new role, Dr Kyriakides will not only help Walk of Truth to fulfil its mission. He will also help to implement a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) entered into in 2021 by Walk of Truth and University College London (UCL). The main purpose of the MoU is to ‘promote research, training and education around the protection of cultural heritage globally’. Further details are in the press release published by UCL on 30 September 2021 at www.ucl.ac.uk/global/news/2021/sep/ucl-and-walk-truth-join-forces-protect-cultural-heritage
During the Autumn of 2021, Dr Kyriakides has strengthened his pre-existing relationship with Agora Dialogue by becoming its Academic Co-ordinator of webinars and other events. Agora Dialogue is a registered not-for-profit Australian organisation dedicated to ‘sharing knowledge and ideas’, ‘promoting engaged citizenship’ and ‘encouraging responsible leadership’. Further details are on the websites of Agora Dialogue at https://forum.agora-dialogue.com/ and https://agora-dialogue.com/
In each of his three new roles, Dr Kyriakides intends to engage in civic education and otherwise contribute to the public dialogue on fundamental issues of historical, legal, constitutional or cultural significance. At the same time, he intends to build new post-Brexit academic as well as cultural and professional bridges. Among these will be bridges linking the United Kingdom (of which Dr Kyriakides is a citizen), the Commonwealth (whose members include Australia, the Republic of Cyprus and the United Kingdom) and the European Union (whose members include the Netherlands and the Republic of Cyprus but no longer the United Kingdom).
