“The role of CSR in tourism businesses – a German perspective”

Summary:
Corporate Social Responsibility is a boom word in today’s debate on a more sustainable future, therefore the presentation will outline existing expectations and framework-conditions from various stakeholders, such as the EU, the business sector and consumers. While concentrating on German tourism businesses, state of the art CSR-activities of TUI and KUONI will be reviewed. Furthermore the latest attempt on a CSR-certification for tourism businesses in Germany will be presented.
Biography:
Prof. Dr. Werner Gronau holds the position as Professor for Tourism, Travel & Transport at the University of Stralsund/Germany and is affiliated to the University of Bergamo/Italy as Visiting Professor. He holds a German Degree in Human Geography from the Technical University of Munich and a PhD in Tourism Studies (“Leisure mobility and leisure style”) from the University of Paderborn. He is member of several research groups in the field of Tourism and Transport, such as the British “Leisure Studies Association”, the “German Society of Tourism Research” or the “German Transport Geography Research Group”. Furthermore he works as Reviewer for several academic journals, such as “Tourism Management”, “Leisure Studies” or “Tourism Today”. Furthermore, he is chief-editor of the transport journal “Studies on Mobility and Transport Research”. His research interests focus on sustainable Destination Management and tourism related transport issues. He has worked in several research projects granted by different institutions as for example the German Ministry of Research or the European Commission and presented the results on international conferences, in various journals and books.
