UCLan Cyprus has the pleasure to announce that our BSc Sport and Exercise Science student, Ekaterina Ivanushchenko, participated at the 58th International Session of the International Olympic Academy for Young Participants. The Session was held between the 16th – 30th of June 2018 in Greece.
Participants were invited to send short papers and presentations prior to the Session, with the basic subject “The Athlete as a Role Model” and “Challenges an Olympic Athlete faces as a role model.” Ekaterina Ivanushchenko’s paper was selected to be presented, by the Ephoria of the IOA during the Session.
The Session’s purpose was to bring together a large international group of people from different countries that share same interests, such as students, Olympians and people active in sport.
In addition, IOA aims to educate, but more significantly, to motivate young people to utilize their experiences and knowledge gained from the Session productively in promoting the Olympics Ideals and educating the rest people in their own countries.
The Session is structured in order to contain lectures, Q&A sessions, group discussion meetings, and presentations by the participants, social trips to archaeological attractions and museums, and research in the library.
An integral and amazing part of this fantastic opportunity is the extracurricular activities, which include sports competitions, games, art, song, dance, poetry and literature workshops and various social occasions and exercises.
At the end of the Session, a big opening ceremony held at the Athens Concert Hall, where the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr Prokopis Pavlopoulos attended the event as well.
What Ekaterina says about her lifetime experience:
“Studying Sport and Exercise Science at UCLan Cyprus, as well as being a tennis player, helped me get chosen to attend this session and be able to give my input into it by getting the opportunity to present a presentation from our discussion group that was live streamed. This was a two week session held in an inspirational and historical place of where the first Olympic Games ever took place. The session dealt with Olympism and its values, and increased our knowledge not through stagnant learning but through dynamic interaction and dialogues with other participants and academics from all around the world. Over 100 countries attended this session, and this made us gain wisdom and culture from one another, and no matter if you were an Olympian, athlete, student or a professor, we were all equal and shared each other’s life experiences. Thanks to this session, I now have friends from all around the world.”
Φοιτήτρια του Πανεπιστημίου UCLan Cyprus συμμετείχε στο Διεθνές Πρόγραμμα της Διεθνούς Ολυμπιακής Ακαδημίας για τους Νέους Συμμετέχοντες στην Ελλάδα
Το Πανεπιστήμιο UCLan Cyprus είναι στην ευχάριστη θέση να ανακοινώσει ότι η φοιτήτρια του προπτυχιακού προγράμματος Sport & Exercise Science, Ekaterina Ivanushchenko, συμμετείχε στην 58ο «Διεθνή Εκδήλωση της Διεθνούς Ολυμπιακής Ακαδημίας (IOA) για τους Νέους Συμμετέχοντες» (International Session of the International Olymbic Academy (IOA) for Young Participants), που πραγματοποιήθηκε στις 16-30 Ιουνίου, 2018, στην Ελλάδα.
Οι συμμετέχοντες κλήθηκαν να προετοιμάσουν και να στείλουν σύντομες εργασίες και παρουσιάσεις πριν από την εκδήλωση, με βασικό θέμα «Ο Αθλητής ως Μοντέλο Ρόλου» και «Οι προκλήσεις που αντιμετωπίζει ο Ολυμπιακός Αθλητής ως πρότυπο.» Η παρουσίαση της Ekaterina Ivanuschenko επιλέχθηκε από την Εφορεία της IOA να παρουσιαστεί κατά τη διάρκεια της εκδήλωσης.
Η εκδήλωση έχει ως πρωταρχικό σκοπό να φέρει σε επαφή μια μεγάλη διεθνή ομάδα με ανθρώπους από διαφορετικές χώρες, αλλά με κοινά ενδιαφέροντα, όπως σπουδαστές, Ολυμπιονίκες και άτομα που ασχολούνται με τον αθλητισμό.
Εκτός αυτού, συμπεριλάμβανε διαλέξεις, ομαδικές συζητήσεις και παρουσιάσεις από τους συμμετέχοντες, εκδρομές σε αρχαιολογικά αξιοθέατα και μουσεία και έρευνα στη βιβλιοθήκη.
