UCLan Cyprus participates in the HEIght project (Higher Education Innovation Growth and Training: heightening sustainable innovation in our higher education institutions and societies) funded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). HEIght is an initiative of a pan-European consortium of four forward-thinking higher education institutions (HEIs) and one actor from another side of the knowledge triangle, united to cultivate a mutually beneficial and collaborative consortium. It leverages existing innovation and entrepreneurial knowledge of all partners and draws on the resources of HEInnovate to spur on growth of the sustainable innovation in our communities and in our institutions. More specifically the consortium consists of the University of Central Lancashire, UK that coordinates the project, UCLan Cyprus, The Malta College of Arts, Science & Technology (MCAST), Özyeğin University in Turkey and the National Centre of Entrepreneurship in Education in the UK(NCEE).
HEIght delivers on the consortium’s shared vision of prosperous, inclusive, and climate-resilient societies where food systems and other areas of human activity that are sustainable, trusted, and healthy contribute to net zero carbon emission economies through a structured programme of work packages. Through training, designed and tailored to developing innovation and enterprise, these activities support the development of academic and non-academic staff and students. Across two phases, HEIght aims to achieve a set of KPIs that include: delivering training (including mentoring) to 645 students, 66 academics and 66 non-academics in order to build innovation and entrepreneurial capacity within HEIs across the consortium, EIT HEIs, the EIT KICs (Key Innovation Communities) and into society. Sustainability is achieved through enabling lifelong learning, particularly through the development of Communities of Practice which can grow from the consortium to pan-European Member States. Through open resources, stakeholders are enabled with tools for transformative change beyond the life of the project. HEIs will develop capacity in innovation and enterprise and adopting the train-the-trainers method will ensure exponential growth of academic and non-academic expertise and skills to support capacity building of innovative and entrepreneurial staff and students impacting on great societal innovation.
UCLan Cyprus participates in the project through its Rector Prof. Panikkos Poutziouris, Dr. Marios Raspopoulos Associate Professor from the School of Sciences and Dr. Fanos Tekelas Lecturer from the School of Business & Management. UCLan Cyprus has an overall involvement in all the activities of the project and also leads WP5 which is dedicated to developing and piloting innovative learning materials and methodologies to enable students to pursue sustainable entrepreneurial activities in order to bring innovation into the market by addressing complex problems such as Climate Change. During Phase 1, HEI’s will develop and pilot the modules in development within their own organisations. During Phase 2, modules will be compiled and tested with Changemakers. It is foreseen that the students who have received the training will then be encouraged to participate in Climate-KIC entrepreneurship programmes.

Το Πανεπιστήμιο UCLan Cyprus συμμετέχει στο έργο HEIght (Higher Education Innovation Growth and Training: heightening sustainable innovation in our higher education institutions and societies) που χρηματοδοτείται από το Ευρωπαϊκό Ινστιτούτο Καινοτομίας και Τεχνολογίας (ΕΙΤ). Το HEIght είναι μια πρωτοβουλία μιας πανευρωπαϊκής κοινοπραξίας τεσσάρων ακαδημαϊκών ιδρυμάτων τριτοβάθμιας εκπαίδευσης και ενός κέντρου επιχειρηματικότητας και καινοτομίας. Αξιοποιεί την γνώση για την υπάρχουσα καινοτομία και επιχειρηματικότητα όλων των εταίρων για να δώσει ώθηση στην ανάπτυξη της βιώσιμης καινοτομίας στις κοινότητές των εταίρων και στα θεσμικά τους όργανα. Πιο συγκεκριμένα, η κοινοπραξία αποτελείται από το University of Central Lancashire του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου που συντονίζει το έργο, το Πανεπιστήμιο UCLan Cyprus, το Malta College of Arts, Science & Technology (MCAST), το Πανεπιστήμιο Özyeğin στην Τουρκία και το Εθνικό Κέντρο Επιχειρηματικότητας στην Εκπαίδευση στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο (NCEE).
Το HEIght υλοποιεί το κοινό όραμα της κοινοπραξίας για ευημερούσες, χωρίς αποκλεισμούς και ανθεκτικές στο κλίμα κοινωνίες, όπου τα συστήματα τροφίμων και άλλοι τομείς ανθρώπινης δραστηριότητας που είναι βιώσιμοι, αξιόπιστοι και υγιείς συμβάλλουν στις καθαρές οικονομίες μηδενικών εκπομπών άνθρακα. Μέσω στοχευμένης εκπαίδευσης, σχεδιασμένης και προσαρμοσμένης στην ανάπτυξη της καινοτομίας και της επιχειρηματικότητας, οι δραστηριότητες του έργου υποστηρίζουν την απόκτηση γνώσης και την ανάπτυξη των δεξιοτήτων από το ακαδημαϊκό, το μη ακαδημαϊκό προσωπικό και των φοιτητών. Σε δύο φάσεις, το HEIght στοχεύει στην επίτευξη ενός συνόλου στόχου που περιλαμβάνει παροχή κατάρτισης (συμπεριλαμβανομένης της καθοδήγησης) σε 645 φοιτητές, 66 ακαδημαϊκούς και 66 μη ακαδημαϊκούς, προκειμένου να οικοδομηθεί καινοτομία και επιχειρηματική κουλτούρα εντός των οργανισμών σε ολόκληρη την κοινοπραξία και στης γύρω κοινωνίες τους. Η βιωσιμότητα επιτυγχάνεται μέσω της δυνατότητας διά βίου μάθησης, ιδίως μέσω της ανάπτυξης κοινοτήτων καλής πρακτικής που μπορούν να αναπτυχθούν από την κοινοπραξία στα πανευρωπαϊκά κράτη μέλη. Μέσω ανοικτών πόρων, τα ενδιαφερόμενα μέρη ενεργοποιούνται με εργαλεία μετασχηματιστικής αλλαγής πέρα από τη διάρκεια ζωής του έργου. Τα εκπαιδευτικά Ιδρύματα θα αναπτύξουν ικανότητες στην καινοτομία και την επιχειρηματικότητα και μέσω της υιοθέτησης της μεθόδου train-the-trainers θα εξασφαλίσει εκθετική ανάπτυξη ακαδημαϊκής και μη ακαδημαϊκής εμπειρογνωμοσύνης και δεξιοτήτων για την υποστήριξη της ανάπτυξης ικανοτήτων καινοτομίας και επιχειρηματικότητας στο προσωπικό και τους φοιτητές που αναμένεται ότι θα επιδρούν ευρύτερα την κοινωνία σε αυτά τα θέματα.
Το Πανεπιστήμιο UCLan Cyprus συμμετέχει στο έργο μέσω του Πρύτανη Καθηγητή Πανίκκου Πουτζιούρη, του Δρ Μάριου Ρασπόπουλου Αναπληρωτή Καθηγητή της Σχολής Θετικών Επιστημών και του Δρ Φάνου Τεκέλα Λέκτορα της Σχολής Επιχειρήσεων & Διοίκησης. Το Πανεπιστήμιο UCLan Cyprus συμμετέχει συνολικά σε όλες τις δραστηριότητες του έργου και ηγείται επίσης της δέσμης εργασίας, που αφορά στην ανάπτυξη και πιλοτική εφαρμογή καινοτόμου εκπαιδευτικού υλικού και μεθοδολογιών που θα επιτρέψουν στους φοιτητές να συνεχίσουν βιώσιμες επιχειρηματικές δραστηριότητες, προκειμένου να φέρουν την καινοτομία στην αγορά αντιμετωπίζοντας σύνθετα προβλήματα όπως η Κλιματική Αλλαγή. Προβλέπεται ότι οι φοιτητές που έχουν λάβει την κατάρτιση θα ενθαρρυνθούν στη συνέχεια να συμμετάσχουν σε προγράμματα καινοτομίας και επιχειρηματικότητας.
