- This module seeks to provide an introduction to ethical decision-making in real life situations. Students are introduced to key ethical principles and values and shown how this understanding can be applied to help analyse ethical dilemmas in various areas of life. They reflect on particular real life ethical questions and the issues they raise, and debate those issues in a reasoned and logical manner.Throughout a series of debates, students actively engage in preparing, presenting, and defending their arguments to an audience of fellow students. Working collaboratively with their colleagues, the debates encourage team-working, communication skills, and the appreciation of alternative perspectives.

Module Aims:
- This module acts an introduction to the study of events – and as a consequence will cover many topics and issues which will in turn be offered in more detail later in the students’ studies. Its primary aim is to illustrate the complexity and range of subjects attached to the study of events and their implication to the events industry. Individual issues and themes will be examined from multi-disciplinary perspectives wherever appropriate; these will largely stem from sociological, political, psychological, economic, comparative and environmental perspectives.

- This module will develop key skills in Scholarship, Research and Technology to aid students with their academic studies. Using contemporary hospitality and tourism themes as a basis, students will develop oral, debating, academic writing and research skills in the context of a higher education environment. In short the module will equip students with a complete ‘toolkit’ of academic, personal and professional skills – laying the foundation for successful academic study across all modules and on which students can build upon each successive year of study.

Module Aims:
- This module is designed to complement the core level four modules on the BA (Hons) Tourism & Hospitality Management programme, by allowing students to apply skills and knowledge developed in the first year of their undergraduate programme in a ‘real world setting’.Using a problem based learning approach; students will work in small groups in partnership with local tourism/leisure SMEs and public sector agencies. The task, identified in consultation with these partners will require students to design and conduct an appropriate research or industry centred management task.The module enables students to develop the skills of research, team working, time management, communication and decision-making introduced in other modules at this level and will offer real and practical to students as future graduate managers.In engaging students directly with industry, the ‘Tourism in Action’ module will allow students to see that there are a variety of ways of approaching particular organisational problems and issues. This allows the student to understand the complexities of organisational life and tourism issues and by its nature, the module will be essentially practical in its teaching, learning and assessment.

- This module critically examines key cultural, sociological and anthropological underpinnings of the arts and cultural heritage events and exhibitions.This module will explore the design and nature of heritage events and exhibitions and, subsequently, outline critical themes, issues, and consequences for producing and consuming the arts and culture.Particularly, the module adopts a museological approach to heritage events and their interrelationships with both the visitor experience as well as the cultural condition of contemporary society.

- The primary aim of this module is to provide hospitality, tourism and event management students with a professional and critical awareness of service quality management, whilst also building upon the importance of analysing and planning research in their substantive areas of study. - The aim of this module is to provide students with an in-depth insight and understanding of the development and issues relating to sport tourism as a global and emerging field. The module will focus on the key issues influencing the growth of sport tourism and the impacts that sport tourism as a phenomenon is having on both host communities and environments within rural and urban contexts. - The aim of the dissertation is to provide an opportunity for students to pursue an in-depth study on a topic of their own choice which is related to their substantive areas of study. Students will work independently, under limited supervision, in order to develop and demonstrate their academic skills and abilities. The dissertation will normally be based on a topic stemming from their degree studies and will demonstrate the use of primary and secondary data collection techniques. Relevant literature is to be reviewed and applied to the primary research activities to investigate the topic and present an academic report in the form of a research dissertation.

- This module provides an in-depth understanding of the issues involved in managing quality in service organisations. The module considers the importance of customers, employees and service delivery quality to the effective service organisation.
