Project: SMIDGE (Social Media Narratives: Addressing Extremism in Middle-Age), HORIZON-Europe

Location: UCLan Cyprus, Pyla-Larnaca, Cyprus

UCLan Cyprus invites applications for a position (full-time or part-time) to work as part of the UCLan Cyprus team on the project SMIDGE (ABOUT SMIDGE | Smidge (smidgeproject.eu)), under the supervision of Prof. Kalypso Iordanou and Dr. Vasiliki Christodoulou. The project examines conspiracy theories, misinformation, and extremism proliferating online, particularly targeting middle-aged individuals (45-65).

 

Job Details

Short Description/Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidates will be engaged in research for the project SMIDGE. The researcher’s day-to-day responsibilities will be to pursue research (particularly qualitative analysis), produce, submit, and publish research results in international journals.

Profile of the ideal candidate:

The ideal candidate must possess academic background (MSc or PhD degree) in an area relevant to the research project (reasoning, misinformation, conspiracy theories, media, social sciences), as well as excellent research and writing skills. The candidate is expected to have independent critical thinking skills, strong organizational and time-management skills, and the ability to collaborate as part of a team. Highly motivated individuals who are interested in learning and pursuing research are strongly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s or PhD in Psychology (or related field).
  • Previous research experience, especially in EU-funded projects, will be considered an advantage.
  • Where English is not your first language an English language qualification is required at IELTS 6.5/7.0 or equivalent. Candidates who have graduated from an English-Speaking university with a BSc or MSc are exempted from this requirement.

Terms:

The position is for six months (full-time or part-time), with the potential to be renewed for one year. The salary will range between 1500-2300, depending on qualifications. From this amount, employee contributions to the Cyprus government funds will be deducted. The 13th salary bonus is incorporated in the monthly salary.

  1. Cover letter that specifies the research skills of the applicant and the the reasons for applying for this position.
  2. A detailed curriculum vitae in English.
  • Copies of official BSc/MSc/PhD degree(s) as well as copies of official transcripts for each degree (if the original language of the degree/transcript is not Greek or English, copies of official translations are also required).
  1. Copy of English language certificate, unless you have a university degree from an English speaking university.
  2. Identify the names of two University Professors who can provide reference letters.
