True to its core mission of educating students and the wider public, the School of Law of UCLan Cyprus hosted an important commemorative event on the evening of 13 December 2018.
To mark Human Rights Day and the passage of 70th year anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Dr Nicos Christodoulides, delivered a public lecture on the subject of human rights. An inter-active panel discussion followed; this examined the relevance of Human Rights Day for Cyprus.
This open event, which was open to the public, was co-organised by the School of Law of UCLan Cyprus and the United Nations Association of Cyprus (UNAC). As such, it was the latest in a series of events involving these two organisations, both of which are dedicated to promoting fundamental human rights and freedoms, particularly in the troubled part of the world wherein the Republic of Cyprus is situated.
The evening began with a Welcome Address by Mr Floros Voniatis, the Chief Executive Officer of UCLan Cyprus. This was followed by an Opening Address by Dr Christos A. Theodoulou, the President of the United Nations Association of Cyprus and also the Vice-President of the World Federation of United Nations Associations.
After the Key Note Speech by the Foreign Minister and the Panel Discussion chaired by Dr Klearchos A. Kyriakides of the School of Law, a vote of thanks was offered by Professor Stéphanie Laulhé Shaelou, Professor of European Law and Reform and Head of the School of Law. Following the vote of thanks, attendees gathered at the post-event reception.

Με αφορμή την Ημέρα των Ανθρωπίνων Δικαιωμάτων και τα 70 χρόνια της Οικουμενικής Διακήρυξης των Ανθρωπίνων Δικαιωμάτων, η Νομική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου UCLan Cyprus και ο Σύνδεσμος Ηνωμένων Εθνών της Κύπρου (UNAC), διοργανώσαν ενημερωτική εκδήλωση με τίτλο: «Ημέρα Ανθρωπίνων Δικαιωμάτων και Κύπρος».
Η εκδήλωση διεξήχθη την Πέμπτη, 13 Δεκεμβρίου 2018 στις εγκαταστάσεις του Πανεπιστημίου UCLan Cyprus, με κύριο ομιλητή τον Αξιότιμο Υπουργό Εξωτερικών της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας, Δρ Νίκο Χριστοδουλίδη.
Ο Υπουργός Εξωτερικών της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας, Δρ Νίκος Χριστοδουλίδης, έδωσε δημόσια διάλεξη για τα ανθρώπινα δικαιώματα ενώ ακολούθησε συζήτηση κατά την οποία οι παρευρισκόμενοι απεύθυναν ερωτήσεις και εισηγήσεις με επίκεντρο τα ανθρώπινα δικαιώματα στην Κύπρο καθώς και ευρύτερα.
Με χαιρετισμό του ο κύριος Φλώρος Βονιάτης, Διευθύνων Σύμβουλος του Πανεπιστημίου UCLan Cyprus, επισήμανε για ακόμα μια φορά πως το Βρετανικό Πανεπιστήμιο της Κύπρου παραμένει πιστό στην κύρια αποστολή του ως προς την μόρφωση των φοιτητών του καθώς και του ευρύτερου κοινού με παρόμοιες ανοικτές διαλέξεις. Στη συνέχεια, ακολούθησε ομιλία του κ. Χρήστου Α. Θεοδούλου, Προέδρου του United Nations Association of Cyprus και Αντιπροέδρου του World Federation of United Nations Associations.
Το Πανεπιστήμιο UCLan Cyprus και ο Σύνδεσμος Ηνωμένων Εθνών της Κύπρου (UNAC) επωφελούνται της ευκαιρίας να ευχαριστήσουν τον Υπουργό Εξωτερικών για τη δημόσια διάλεξή του στο Πανεπιστήμιο καθώς και όλους τους συμμετέχοντες.
Η εκδήλωση ολοκληρώθηκε με ευχαριστίες και από την Καθηγήτρια Stéphanie Laulhé Shaelou, Καθηγήτρια Ευρωπαϊκού Δικαίου και Μεταρρύθμισης και Προέδρου της Νομικής Σχολής του Πανεπιστημίου UCLan Cyprus ενώ ακολούθησε δεξίωση.
