Industry Leaders in Psychology support of Student Learning at UCLan Cyprus

An influential initiative in Psychology demonstrates UCLan Cyprus’ dedication to developing real-world skills for its students. Specifically, the psychology module aptly titled “Being a Psychologist” has attracted substantial support and attention from industry practitioners in the field of psychology and beyond, who are stepping forward to support and inspire student learning.

This module offers second-year Psychology students with a unique opportunity to meet practicing psychologists and interdisciplinary groups, gaining invaluable insights into their respective fields while emphasizing the importance of ethics in psychology practice.

During the academic year, professionals of varied backgrounds were invited to share their rea-world experiences. This includes a Forensic Psychologist, a Health Psychologist and a Sports Psychologist from AEK Larnaca, Football Club.

Special attention however should be given to a recent visit of representatives of Her Majesty’s Prison at the Sovereign British Area. Chief Inspector Mr Pertev Karazoglou and Inspector Dora Panteli provided students with a comprehensive overview of the challenges faced within the Dhekelia Prison, including alarming statistics related to inmate population growth. Additionally, insights were shared concerning substance abuse and mental health issues prevalent among inmates. The SBA representatives underscored the vital importance of collaboration with institutions like UCLan Cyprus and the MSc Forensic Psychology program. They praised the support and assistance rendered to inmates through this partnership, notably highlighting the contributions of students engaged in practical training as part of their studies.

Such collaborations exemplify the university’s commitment to fostering a dynamic learning environment that bridges academic theory with real-world practice.
