The School of Law of UCLan Cyprus is pleased to announce the online intensive course on ethical principles and professional values related to technology in the CRoLEV Intensive Course Series entitled “Principles and Values in the Digital World”.
This 10-hour hybrid (synchronous and asynchronous) course looks at ethics and values related to technology design, development and use. In order to achieve this aim, it seeks to familiarise students with key concepts e.g., research ethics. In the final part of the course, an assessment exercise will take place where students can show their learning. The course aims to inform students of principles and values that must be considered when designing, developing, and/or using new technologies.
The course will cover the following themes:
- Research Ethics &Technology-focused principles
- Professional values for IT and other professionals
- Considerations for operational use of new technologies
This course is relevant for any advanced student or professional interested in technology impact.
The course will be delivered in in the English language at an intermediate-to-advanced level.

Janet C. Read, Professor, School of Psychology and Computing, UCLan & Josephina Antoniou, Associate Professor, School of Sciences, UCLan Cyprus
- Janet Read is a Professor of Child Computer Interaction and the Director of the Digital Life Centre at UCLan in Preston. For over 20 years she has been researching evaluation and design with and for children and her contributions to that field include inaugurating the International Interaction Design and Children Conference and the International Journal of Child Computer Interaction.
- Josephina Antoniou is Associate Professor of Computing and the Course Leader of the MSc Computing at UCLan Cyprus. She is expert in technology-related ethical guidelines for development and use, as well as in user experience when interacting with technology.

This course takes place within the framework of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence entitled CRoLEV (Centre for the Rule of Law and European Values). ‘European Union Law and Governance in Populist Times’.
