The School of Business and Management of UCLan Cyprus is pleased to announce the organisation of a roundtable on the current Cyprus Banking Reform, to be held on Wednesday, 5 June 2019 from 19:00 (18:30 for registrations) to 20:45 at Richard Ballroom, Lanitis Carob Mill Complex in Limassol. The aim of the roundtable is to bring together prominent leaders from finance, business, policy and academic spheres to look into the current transformation of Cyprus banking system and assess its long-term impacts on the financial sector and on real economy.
March 2019 marked the six-year anniversary of the collapse of Cyprus Popular Bank (‘Laiki’), which triggered a momentous financial and economic crisis in the Republic of Cyprus. The 2013 crisis, the subsequent recession, and the nature of the recovery have fundamentally changed the financial sector, leading to the insolvency or restructuring of large banks and financial institutions and eroding public trust in the banking sector and its future. In this context, the School seeks to develop a roundtable discussion focusing on the current transformation of the Cyprus banking system, to discuss its present situation, to assess its risks impacting both the financial sector and the economy, as well as to view the potential of reaching to a restoration of its fundamental role taking into consideration the current financial regulatory architecture.
