The UCLan Cyprus School of Business & Management and its  BA (Hons) Accounting & Finance Programme proudly held on Saturday, 6th April 2019, an Award Ceremony to honour the students and their High Schools, which won the Next Gen Accountant Competition, that run in cooperation with the SAP Competence Centre in Munich, Germany.

The Next Gen Accountant Competition, was offered for the first time in Cyprus, and focuses on the special skills required for the next generation of accountants. Students were introduced to a computer-based case study offered by the SAP UCC, featuring Global Bike Inc., a fictitious company that manufactures technologically advanced bikes. Students formed teams and were asked to make decisions regarding the bikes’ specifications, their production, distribution and marketing promotion.

The three winning teams were from:

• the International School of Paphos,
• the Russian School of Paphos, and
• the Junior & Senior School, Nicosia

The winning teams made the most effective operational decisions that led to the highest profit among the other competing teams.

“We need to encourage our youth to enhance their entrepreneurial decision-making skills and offer them the support they need to materialise their ideas efficiently into a fast pace, competitive, business environment. The role of universities and business schools is instrumental in achieving this”, said Dr Loukas Glyptis, Head of the School of Business & Management in his welcome speech to the winning teams.

Special thanks are owed to Dr Konstantinos Melas, Lecturer in Accounting Information Systems for engaging the students with SAP, the world’s leading accounting (and not only) software via a unique case study-based experience.

Η Σχολή Διοίκηση Επιχειρήσεων του Πανεπιστημίου UCLan Cyprus, και το πρόγραμμα του BA Accounting and Finance πραγματοποίησε το Σάββατο, 6 Απριλίου 2019, την τελετή απονομής βραβείων για τον διαγωνισμό ‘Next Gen Accountant Competition’. Ο διαγωνισμός πραγματοποιήθηκε για πρώτη φορά στην Κύπρο σε συνεργασία με το SAP Competence Centre του Μοναχό της Γερμανίας.

Ο διαγωνισμός του ‘Next Gen Accountant’ εστίαζε στις ειδικές δεξιότητες που θα χρειαστούν οι νέοι φέρελπίς λογιστές, σε ένα διαρκώς μεταβαλλόμενο οικονομικό περιβάλλον. Στους μαθητές παρουσιάστηκε ένα ηλεκτρονικό simulation game, το οποίο αναφερόταν στην Global Bike Inc, μια πλασματική εταιρία που κατασκευάζει ποδήλατα προχωρημένης τεχνολογίας. Οι μαθητές δημιούργησαν ομάδες και τους ζητήθηκε να πάρουν αποφάσεις σχετικά με τις προδιάγραφες των ποδηλατών, την παραγωγή τους, την διανομή τους και την εμπορική προβολή των ποδηλάτων.

Οι τρεις νικήτριες ομάδες ήταν από τα ακόλουθα σχολεία:

• The International School of Paphos
• The Russian School of Paphos
• The Junior and Senior School, Nicosia

Οι νικήτριες ομάδες πήραν τις πιο αποτελεσματικές και λειτουργικές αποφάσεις, οι οποίες αποτέλεσαν στα πιο μεγάλα κέρδη από όλους τους συναγωνιζόμενους τους.

«Ο ρόλος των πανεπιστημίων και των ακαδημαϊκών είναι πρωτίστως να ενθαρρύνουν τη νεολαία μας και να ενισχύσουν τις επιχειρηματικές τις δεξιότητες. Επίσης, οι ακαδημαϊκοί πρέπει να προσφέρουμε τη στήριξη μας στις δημιουργικές επιχειρηματικές αναζητήσεις των νέων μας» δήλωσε ο Δρ. Λούκας Γλύπτης, Κοσμήτορας της Σχολής Διοίκηση Επιχειρήσεων του πανεπιστήμιου UCLan Cyprus στην χαιρετιστήρια ομιλία του στις νικήτριες ομάδες.

Ειδικές ευχαριστίες οφείλονται στον κ. Κωνσταντίνο Μελά, Λέκτορα στα Πληροφοριακά Συστήματα, ο οποίος έφερε σε επαφή τους μαθητές με το simulation game, και επιμελήθηκε εν συνόλω τον διαγωνισμού.
