The Strengthening of Mediation Expertise in the School of Law at the University of Central Lancashire Cyprus (UCLan Cyprus) through Experienced UK Partners

In the spirit of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the University of Central Lancashire Cyprus (UCLan Cyprus) and Essential Mediation Solutions Ltd on 13 October 2020 to support and enhance mediation knowledge and expertise at the University of Central Lancashire Cyprus (UCLan Cyprus), Dr Nevi Agapiou, Lecturer in International Commercial Law and Dispute Resolution at the School of Law, attended an online Workplace Conversion Course offered on 19-20 November 2020 by Essential Mediation Solutions and supported by Lakeland Mediation Solutions. Dr Agapiou, already an accredited civil and commercial mediator, had the opportunity to be trained in workplace mediation by expert trainers Emma McAndry and Dawn Stainer and later observe an online workplace mediation, an invaluable opportunity strengthening her training on workplace mediation.

Emma McAndry of Essential Mediation Solutions and Dawn Stainer of Lakeland Mediation Solutions are both experienced mediators themselves and are also involved as trainers, assessors alongside Dr Despina Christofi, Dr Nevi Agapiou and Professor Stéphanie Laulhé Shaelou, in the annual International Civil and Commercial Mediation Course as well as other professional courses or seminars offered by UCLan Cyprus. This year’s International Civil and Commercial Course will take place between 13-21 February 2021 and is currently open for registration. What distinguishes this mediation training course from others on the island is the opportunity afforded to successful participants to then register with the Civil Mediation Council in the UK (specific registration requirements apply). You can find more information on the upcoming course here: https://www.uclancyprus.ac.cy/the-school-of-law-organises-the-international-civil-amp-commerical-mediation-course/

On 16 February 2021, 5pm-8pm there is also a Dealing with Conflict training seminar for Managers organised by the University of Central Lancashire Cyprus (UCLan Cyprus) for which registration is open. This seminar will offer training to managers on how to deal with conflict in a team and how to have constructive conversations. More specifically, this seminar will examine the causes of conflict, how to evaluate an explanation of behaviour in conflict, reflect on the impact of conflict in the workplace, help managers learn how to deal with a dispute in a team and how to manage difficult conversations, provide observed demonstrations or discussions with team members in conflict, as well as the considerations regarding when and how to refer a dispute to mediation, including a demonstration of mediation in practice.
