Last week, Dr Katerina Antoniou, Lecturer in Tourism and Course Leader of BA (Hons) Hospitality and Tourism Management at UCLan Cyprus, was one of the keynote speakers at the 2023 Korea Global Forum for Peace Education. The forum was held on September 6th at the invitation of the Okedongmu Children in Korea organisation and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Republic of Korea.
Dr Antoniou presented peacebuilding through the case study of the Cyprus conflict, the challenges faced, and the roadmap ahead. This gave the opportunity for drawing parallels with the Korean peninsula and its prospects of sustainable peace.
The Forum’s keynote speakers were also invited to speak at the International Roundtable Conference on Peace and Cooperation, held on September 8th and hosted by the Incheon Nanjeong Peace Education Institute.
Dr Antoniou noted: “There are many best practices to be shared across the two countries, as we can learn from one another regarding peace and stability in our conflict-ridden societies. This forum was an opportunity for new partnerships to form, and new opportunities to develop for expanding tourism’s contribution to peace “. Dr Antoniou also presented her newly published book, “Tourism as a form of International Relations “.
